Sometimes, I have to pinch myself getting to document a couple’s wedding day! Especially when it is for a dear friend! I’ve known Ashley since elementary school, and then after moving back home following college, I attended a women’s Bible study in town with her. I feel incredibly blessed to call her a friend, and I couldn’t have been more happy when she met the love of her life, Sergio. You might remember these two from their engagement session. They first visited Joshua Tree National Park while they were dating. Both were instantly taken with the landscape. The vibrant colored sunrises, the rugged rock formations, the vast expanse of the desert, and the whimsical Joshua trees scattered throughout. So much so, while hiking, Sergio said to Ashley “I want to marry you here!”. Two months later, he proposed and they began planning a sunrise wedding in the very place that had captivated their hearts.
The day started off in the wee hours of the morning at the Airbnb Ashley rented for the weekend. Ashley was all smiles, even at 3:30 in the morning. Her wedding day was here! After hair and makeup, her mom helped her get into her dress and we headed to Keyes View in the park where Sergio was waiting to see his bride. Just as the sun began to rise over the hills, Ashley arrived for what might be the most magical first look I’ve ever witnessed. Sergio could hardly contain his excitement and ran to Ashley, picking her up and spinning her around. His reaction was just priceless! To begin the day, they both wrote love notes and read them to each other while they stood at the peak.
Their ceremony at Black Rock was beautiful in every way. Ashley’s pastor from her home church and Sergio’s friend both officiated. She walked to the ceremony location as “Sails” by Pat Barrett played and echoed in the desert air, carrying a bouquet of flowers with her late father’s wedding ring wrapped around the stems. They exchanged beautiful vows, took communion, and sealed their union with a kiss (and a dip!)! Ashley’s mom and Sergio’s parents clapped as they were announced husband and wife, revealing the biggest smiles of the day! Together, they celebrated with cake and champagne, toasting the new Mr. and Mrs. Reyes!
Words can’t begin to express the sheer joy it was to document this beautiful beautiful wedding day for Sergio + Ashley! And I am thrilled to share some of my favorites with you today!
