It’s going to be hot today…real hot!!! Temperatures are supposed to hit 109-degrees today, I repeat 109 – yikes!!! I don’t know about you, but when it gets THIS hot, I can get a little…cantankerous. Okay, so didn’t want to say ‘grumpy’ so I came up with the best word replacement I could find. And cantankerous is a fun word to say, isn’t it?
To avoid being distraught by the heat today, I decided to write a list of things I absolutely love about summertime. Here are a few of my faves of summer thus far:
1. BBQ’s. I love walking outside my house and smelling all the BBQ’s goin’ in the neighborhood. Ahhhh, so good!
2. Long Summer Nights. Oh how I love when its light till late late in the evenings…love the long days!
3. Nectarines. This is my favorite fruit of the summer. Nothing beats a juicy yellow nectarine…yum!
4. Summer Reading. I just started reading Bridge to Haven by Francine Rivers and I’m tearing through the pages…so good!
5. Watching Movies, Outside. A few summer nights ago, I watched The Secret Life of Walter Mitty on my lap top outside, under the stars. It all was fabulous.
6. Traveling. I’m planning a trip and am getting SO excited for this new adventure…will share more soon!
7. Bonfires + S’mores. I grew up camping as a kid and sitting around the campfire was always a part. I love it still as much as I did then. The smell. The conversations. The sticky fingers you get from making your s’more. The way your clothes smell from sitting around the fire. Love it all.
8. Banana Pancakes. I don’t know what it is. Maybe it’s Jack Johnson influenced, but eating banana pancakes just feels right during the summertime.
9. Flip flops. Who am I kidding, I wear flip flops all year long, but I still love that summer is made for them! : )
10. Swimming. I’ve had shin splints the last few weeks so I have moved from the treadmill to the pool. Every time I swim, I am reminded of my love for water. I literally think I could and would live in the water if it was an option.
Speaking of living in the water, I had a chance to spend time with a mermaid (a.k.a. my niece, Selah) the other week. Probably the cutest mermaid I ever did see…
